What is the difference between home euthanasia and clinic euthanasia?

The experience can differ significantly between the two settings, and this can impact both your pet's comfort and your family's experience.

🌿 In-home euthanasia allows for:

Your pet to remain in a familiar and safe space.

A gentle sedation protocol to ensure a relaxed and peaceful transition.

An unhurried appointment guided entirely at your pace.

Greater privacy and flexibility around who is present.

The ability to grieve privately in your own home.

🌿 Clinic euthanasia typically involves:

Your pet being taken to a treatment area for an IV catheter.

Sedation not always being part of the protocol.

Time constraints due to clinic schedules.

Noise from other pets, clients, or emergencies.

A clean and sterile environment designed for medical care rather than end-of-life comfort.

It is important to acknowledge that veterinary clinics do extraordinary work. They dedicate long hours to keeping pets healthy, managing emergencies, and caring for animals in need. When it comes to end-of-life care, they do their very best within the demands of a busy clinic. However, those demands can make it more challenging to create the same level of privacy, calm, and fear-free atmosphere that a home setting allows.

At Love & Toe Beans, our sole focus is palliative and end-of-life care. We use a fear-free approach and design every visit to be calm, gentle, and unhurried, in the place your pet feels safest.

Many families find that saying farewell at home offers a more peaceful, dignified, and personal goodbye for both their pet and their family.
